Windrush Defenders, Patron Prof Sir Geoff Palmer, is strongly contesting the current design of justice as it relates to the Windrush generation and the wider African and Caribbean community. We believe that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice, privileges, and opportunity regardless of their ethnicity, choices or circumstances.

Our emphasis has been on campaigning for a Windrush Act that protects the Windrush Generation and their descendants from the recurrence of the ‘Scandal’ and for restoration of their rights that has been taken away over the years by changes to legislation. We are also working on achieving the recommendation in our ‘Burning Work’ report by having dialogues and working with statutory bodies to break barriers for social mobility, and commissioning research to investigate the intersection of Race, Community and Policing.

Study to probe how we ended up with the Windrush scandal          12 May 2021

SAS academic and lead researcher, Dr Juanita Cox, explained, 'A six-month scoping project on the Windrush generation and their relationship to the British State (1948–2018) funded by the University of London's Convocation Trust pointed to a longer history behind the hostile environment of detention, deportation and denial of citizenship. It highlighted too, a broader interplay between community activism and Caribbean diplomacy.
